Cybersecurity expert Muhammad Asad Ul Rehman has warned that cybercriminals have become active with the arrival of the New Year, sending people fake links that could compromise their data and privacy. He noted that these cybercriminals tempt people with New Year’s gifts or free internet data offers through these fake links. When individuals click on these links, they are directed to a fraudulent website that prompts them to share the link with friends to receive a New Year’s gift. Additionally, fake e-commerce websites offering incredibly low prices for New Year sales are created, where people end up providing their ATM card details in hope of getting a bargain. Hackers then use these details to withdraw money from the victims’ bank accounts. He advised the public not to click on these fake links or share them with others.
