In an increasingly connected world, harassment is no longer confined to physical spaces, it has rapidly moved into the digital sphere. Addressing this evolving challenge is critical to safeguarding the dignity, reputation, and psychological well-being of our students.
CS Zone recently organized an awareness seminar titled “Understanding Cyberbullying, Its Impact, and Legal Protection” at Government Post Graduate College (GPGC) for Women, Haripur.
The session was conducted by cybersecurity specialist Muhammad Asad Ul Rehman, who equipped students with practical tools and actionable strategies to identify, prevent, and respond to online abuse effectively.
Major Discussion Points
During the seminar, students were informed about:
- Cyberbullying as a form of psychological harm carried out through digital harassment, intimidation, blackmail, and online defamation.
- The dangers associated with constant online presence and the long-term consequences of permanent digital footprints.
- Common methods used by perpetrators, including fake social media accounts, hacked profiles, impersonation, and AI-generated deepfake content.
- The emotional, social, and academic consequences of online abuse, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and withdrawal.
- Legal safeguards provided under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, including provisions related to cyberstalking, identity theft, harassment, and defamation.
- The official complaint procedure through the NCCIA portal and the cybercrime helpline.
Understanding Legal Rights and Reporting Channels
Students were also guided on practical response measures, including:
- Collecting and preserving digital evidence such as screenshots, links, and chat records.
- Submitting complaints through authorized cybercrime reporting platforms.
- Seeking timely assistance via official helplines.
- Avoiding engagement with offenders or responding to threats.
Awareness of legal protections empowers victims to take informed action instead of remaining silent.
Promoting a Culture of Digital Responsibility
Through initiatives like this seminar, CS Zone continues to promote safer digital environments where students feel confident and protected online.
“Awareness is a powerful defense, Breaking the silence is the first step toward prevention and accountability”
We appreciate the support and cooperation of the management and the IT Society of GPGC for Women, Haripur for facilitating this meaningful engagement.
